The Special Administrative Region (SAR) enjoyed an excellent day at the Epson Swimming World Cup Hong Kong yesterday with another two national marks tumbling.

The SAR team, who rewrote four Hong Kong records at Kowloon Park Indoor Swimming Pool on Saturday, saw alex Fong Lik-sun twice slash the men's 200 metre backstroke mark and Sherry Tsai Hiu-wai eclipse the women's 100m individual medley standard.

Fong broke the 200m backstroke mark twice yesterday, lowering Mark Kwok's 1997 record of 2:05.13 to 2:04.85 in the morning heats and then sensationally withering the record in the final, where he finished fifth with a time 2:03.85.

"Made in Hong Kong" Fong, who lives and trains in the SAR and is the product of Hong Kong-born coaches, was thrilled his training had paid off.

"I raced a brilliant time for me ¡X quite unbelievable," said the hardworking Fong, who manages to fit in 18 hours training per week as well as studying at St Joseph's College.

Fong, who celebrates his 18th birthday this week, said he had aimed for the record before the FINA-sanctioned event.

"Before I went into the meet, I wanted the records, I'm very happy with my times," he said.

Up-and-coming Tsai, who also rewrote her own 50m and 200m backstroke records on Saturday, was at it again yesterday.

The promising 14-year-old broke her national best of 1:06.21 with a time of 1:05.90.

"Of course, my coach has been a huge encouragement and I have trained very hard," Tsai said.

"I'll need to swim about 1:03 over the long course, but I'd like to make the final in the Asian Games.  That's my next target."

On yesterday's evidence she might just make it.
