SCMP Young Post 1998
Swimmer-of-the-moment Alex Fong Lik-sun was delighted to have won his secound consecutive Coca-Cola Junior Sports Stars Award, but said it would be hard for him to make the grade next year, when he moved up to the senior category.
Lik-sun,who turned 18 last week, was one of six youngsters who won the top junior prize. But the St. Joseph's College Form Six student was convinced he would have to do something really special if he was to make the grade at senior level.
" I'mreally happy to have won the title again be cause this was the last year for me as a junior."
"We all know how many good senior athletes we have in Hong Kong,"he said.
Lik-sun attended the glittering awards ceremony fresh from breaking another two senior Hong Kong short-couse records,in the Beijing leg of the World Cup.
He broke records in the 400 metres freestyle(3'58"92) and 200m backstroke(2'03"72).
Lik-sun also broke the Hong Kong record in the 200m backstroke twice in one day,at the recent Epson Swimming World Cup,at Kowloon Park.
He first broke Mark Kwok Kin-ming's old mark of 2'05"13 and then bettered that in the final, posting 2'03"85.
